Please ensure property such as bicycles are locked up and your shed is alarmed. It is worth checking on these items daily to ensure all is locked and secure. During the winter, people tend to not use, or notice if these items are safe, which can mean you discover the have been taken weeks after. Shed alarms, alarmed padlocks and fence cactus spikes are worthwhile items to use.
Injunction and power of arrest issued for anti-social behaviour at a property in Burbage. Please see link for full information.News | Burbage Parish Council
A good news story. A resident found a wallet and we were able to get it back to the owner, who wasn't even aware he had lost it. Complete with cash and cards. It is nice to know that despite some of the crime we get, there are still a lot of honest and good willing people about.
Work this week includes dealing with reports of Cannabis use, patrols, working with Hinckley council on neighbour disputes, CCTV trawls regarding burglaries and supporting residents with crime prevention. Since our last report, there have been 45 calls to Police regarding incidents in Burbage, 10 were emergency and 14 were priority calls.
Whilst I try to only send one email per week through this platform so not to overload you with emails, we cannot control what gets sent from other agencies such as Neighbourhood watch etc. If you wish to only receive our local updates, you can log in to your account and change this. Just ensure the “Police” box is ticked to get the local updates. Pop me an email if you have any issues. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk
Burbage Police Newsletter December 2025
Issue: Winter Update December 2025
Sgt James Cross PCSO Darren Stretton PC Davidson
Welcome to my monthly update for the residents and communities of the Burbage. Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.
We have listened to you and the concerns you raised and prioritised the following: Below are our new priorities which we will be actioning this month. Below are our new priorities for the next few months.
Priority 1: Burglary
You Said – Burglaries of homes, sheds and other outbuildings continue to be a concern in the area and as the darker nights approach house break ins have notoriously increased due to the signs that people are not home and the opportunities for offenders to be less disturbed with the cover of darkness. Items such as jewellery, cash, bank cards are often targeted. Back windows and conservatory doors will be weak points which criminals will target to enter property.
Priority 2: Vehicle Crime
You Said – Being the victim of a vehicle crime is a concern for local residents, and with the approach of Christmas leading to the likelihood of more valuables being in cars the opportunity for offenders to take advantage of this is high. The darker nights often sees an increase in theft from vehicles which will include items such as bank cards, tools, bags and cash. Motorbikes could also be targeted over the coming months.
Priority 3: Road Safety
You Said – Road safety is consistently raised as a concern around the village and with the colder, wetter months approaching and the morning and evenings being darker more people tend to use a car to take their children to school. The increase in vehicles leads to issues with parking and vehicles being left in dangerous/illegal positions.
#WeDid - What we are doing
Burglary - Reports of residential burglary continued from October into the first couple of weeks of November. Suspects gained entry to properties that appeared unoccupied, via smashing rear windows and completing untidy searches for jewellery and cash. We have been completing targeted patrols in the area and responding to these reports. There has been continued sporadic reports in the second half of November. Work includes victim support, CCTV trawls and supporting residents with crime reduction items. Raising awareness through our weekly updates also helps with appeals for information and hopefully makes residents aware of current crime in order to protect their own property. We have completed stop searches of persons and vehicles whilst out on patrols. We encourage everyone to ensure your property appears occupied and ensure valuable are hidden away or removed. Incidents are occurring from late afternoon to nigh time so please be aware.
Road Safety – We have been visiting local schools to challenge those involved in dangerous parking outside schools. We have also visited areas that have been raised by residents as a concern. We have spoken to vehicle keepers where issues have been raised by residents. To support with road safety, we are also applying for funding where we can hopefully get road safety items such as banners for school areas. As we approach Christmas and New Year, Police will be targeting drink and drug drivers in the area. With the cold frosty weather here, please take an extra 5 minutes to ensure your vehicle is fit for driving (clear the windows and lights of ice/condensation etc). Please drive carefully, considerately and consider the safety of others.
Vehicle Crime - There were multiple reports from the Britannia Road/Lychgate Lane areas of Burbage where two suspects have gone around in the early hours over one night, checking car doors. Whilst several vehicles were left unlocked, thankfully, only a bit of loose change was taken. Please ensure no items are left in your vehicle and ensure vehicles are locked. You never know what type of person is about. There were also a couple of reports of attempt theft from vans at the Hinckley Island hotel. Car parks and street parking can be easy targets for criminals. Please consider this if you carry items such as tools, please remove them. Do not leave bank cards, laptops, bags etc in your vehicle. Remember this as we approach Christmas. If you see suspicious persons, vehicles or a crime in progress, please call the Police immediately. 101 non-emergency or 999 emergency.
